Winners of 2007 Tournament
Eudunda is fast becoming the preferred darts venue outside of the city in South Australia in 2007
Last Saturday and Sunday The Eudunda RSL hosted 60 darts players from all over the state witnessing the best darts ever seen in these parts before. Some 60 players ventured to Eudunda to compete in the 3rd Eudunda Invitational Darts tournament where there were 69 perfect 180 scores thrown.
On the Saturday Tournament Coordinator Colin Garner welcomed the players to Eudunda and by the response they were very pleased with the show hall as a preferred venue for such an event. Colin introduced John Stevens the President of the RSL who welcomed the players and spectators and asked them to enjoy the facilities provided. A minutes silence was called by Colin before he asked Edgar Zander (one of our longest surviving diggers) to throw the first dart and officially open this years tournament.
Major sponsor Tim Knight from T shirt City presented pennants to the players who had thrown perfect 180 darts and inducted them as official members of the Eudunda 180 Club. After the Pairs draw was completed the players went into battle in a round robin tournament with the winners playing off in a knock out final between the remaining 16 pairs. The eventual winners were Laurie Loch and Rob Modra from NDDA defeating Dave Willment from Kadina and Colin Edwards from NDDA. The standard of play was up to the expectations of the tournament coordinator where he had predicted that we would see many 180’s thrown and as good a darts as you will see anywhere.
On Saturday night a good contingent of players stayed in the Top Pub, Light Hotel and the 19th hole making it easier to be prepared to do it all again on Sunday. The singles introduced a different perspective to the game where it was every person for themselves. The fresh group of players and some being much younger put the pressure on the top players making sure they played to the best of their abilities to be in the money. The food and drinks stalls were flat out once again on Sunday feeding the hungry and thirsty players as they were on Saturday and the effort put in by all of the ladies and men from RSL was truly appreciated by the players and spectators alike. A special mention must go to Sandra Heusler for the tireless effort put in at the food stall over the two days her effort was second to none.
There was a good representation from the ladies which made it possible to hold a Ladies knockout competition with the winner being Sylvia Tuwayni from the NDDA and the runner up Ali Pindar from Kadina.
The winner of the Open Singles Tournament was defending Champion Rob Modra who threw some amazing darts to blow the filed away once again. Rob is a State representative who has just accepted an invitation to play on the national circuit where if he continues to throw with the same dedication could eventually represent Australia in the near future. Good Luck Rob…
After the trophy presentation Tournament Coordinator Colin Garner thanked all the Board Sponsors, which included Port Road Sports, The Eudunda Roadhouse, Goyder Electrical, Johno’s Express Transport, The Light Hotel, and The Eudunda Hotel Motel. Colin then thanked the RSL volunteers for their commitment and was pleased to announce that they made a very good profit from their efforts and went on to thank Patsy his partner for her back up in the organizing of the tournament, Phil their son for assisting in setting up the show hall. Others who made a real contribution to the success of weekend was firstly Jeff Johnson from Johno’s Express Freight Kapunda who assisted by not only being a board sponsor but also picked up and delivered the free standing dart boards from Jamestown at no cost. The dart boards were kindly provided by Tony Cooper of the Jamestown darts association and Carpet was donated by Such Carpets for playing area on the Show hall floors. (Thanks to these efforts and without this support the event would not have been Possible)
Colin also made mention of the number of locals who ventured out to see what all the fuss was about and most walked away amazed at the ability of the players and the new found use of the show hall as a darts tournament venue.
In closing Colin thanked Tim Knight of T Shirt City for the wonderful generosity and personal involvement promoting not only darts but the town of Eudunda bringing outsiders to the town and generating a real desire to firstly attend the event and secondly the professionalism he adds to the marketing of an event such as this. In reply Tim thanked Colin for the opportunity to be involved and committed his ongoing support again for next year’s event. Peter Herriman came along and took photos to add them to the town web site refer www.eudunda.net thank you Peter those who want to see the action look at his web site.
