EDI Enjoys Quality
Darts in 2009
Colin Garner once again invited the states best darts
players to compete in the 5th Eudunda Invitational Darts Tournament held
over the two days of last weekend and although he was disappointed with
the numbers compared to the record number of players last year he was
elated with the fact that is was the best final since it has been run.
Saturday saw the mystery pairs hotly contested with
Craig Atze and George Orchison the eventual winning team defeating Alex
Cunningham and Malcolm Atze. All players have played each other many
times so the competition was very competitive touting some great darts.
Patsy saw the players off welcoming them back the following day to do it
all again and for some Sunday could not come quick enough.
After a beautifully prepared breakfast by the RSL on
Sunday Morning who by the way kept the fluids up on request
magnificently saw the draw done and play getting under way right on 10
am. Once the qualifying rounds were complete the final 16 players played
off in a knock out comp after lunch which saw last years winner Ian Wise
and questionably the Number 1 player in the state Craig Atze do battle
in a best of 11 games grand final vying for the rights to the EDI RSL
perpetual shield.
After winning in fine form Craig Atze who is known as
the gentleman of Darts and a man of few words thanked Colin along with
the sponsors for another wonderful Darts competition and is looking
forward to defending his title in 2010.
Major sponsor Tim Knight from T Shirt City and Jenny
Herriman from Web South also thanked Colin, Patsy and Phillip for the
many hours they put in vouching their participation again in a similar
fashion next year as well.
180’s were many but none more surprising than one
thrown by Tim Knight a non regular to darts but by using the principals
of golf (being a target sport) jagged one in his second set of 3 darts.
With 28 thrown for the day there has never been a more proud recipient
in gaining membership to the EDI 180 Club as Tim.
The results of those in the money for the two days
were on Saturday:

for their support and a special mention to Leighton Booth who came over
from Peterborough to assist in the setting up and Des Grahame from
Kangaroo Island for offering to stay behind for a couple of days to
assist in the take down then handed the proceedings to John Stevens from
the RSL who wished the players and spectators a safe trip home knowing
the distances they had to do to make it back to places such as Murray
Bridge, Naracoorte, Mt Gambier, Millicent, Peterborough and Adelaide
looking forward to being able to taking care of
them again in 2010.
